On 26 May 2017 two UN Expert Communications on Tibet were made public.

Both communications – one concerning language campaigner Tashi Wangchuk and the other on individuals linked to Tenzin Delek Rinpoche – were signed by UN Special Rapporteurs covering a range of mandates including on torture, human rights defenders, freedom of religion, freedom of expression, cultural and minority rights and the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention.

In both communications the UN experts ask for China to provide information to clarify the cases raised. To date it appears that a response has been give concerning Tashi Wangchuk but, as it was received in Chinese the document has not been released publicly. In February 2017, UN experts issued a communication about China’s demolitions in Larung Gar, see https://tibetnetwork.org/un-experts-raise-larung-gar/.

Read the Communication below regarding Tenzin Delek Rinpoche, his sister Dolkar Lhamo, and niece Nyima Lhamo (above right), who escaped into exile in 2015. The Tashi Wangchuk Communication can be read online at https://spcommreports.ohchr.org/TMResultsBase/DownLoadPublicCommunicationFile?gId=22981
