Panchen Lama | Missing for 20 Years

Panchen Lama | Missing for 20 Years

Gedhun Choekyi Nyima was just 6 years old when he was recognized by His Holiness the Dalai Lama as the 11th Panchen Lama, one of Tibet’s most important religious leaders. A few days after Gedhun Choekyi Nyima’s recognition, he and his family were taken into custody by the Chinese authorities. They have not been seen since.

Tibet Network member groups continue to prioritise the Panchen Lama, and press governments and UN Special Procedures to raise his case and seek information about his whereabouts and well being.  The two key dates are 25 April, His Holiness the Panchen Lama’s birthday, and 17 May, the date that he was abducted.

Below are campaign resources, which are updated every year.
