International Tibet Network’s 2018 Asia Regional Meeting will take place from 14 – 16 July in Tokyo, Japan.

We are excited to announce that we will be holding this year’s meeting in Japan, at the kind invitation of SFT Japan! As we all know, there is no substitute for face to face meetings to strengthen connections and relationships between everyone working for Tibet in our region.  Network Regional Meetings are great opportunities to strategize campaigns, learn new skills, benefit from expert briefings, find campaign partners and recharge batteries, and the Asia Regional Meeting is especially important because of the significance of the Asia region in the fight for rights and democracy.

We are therefore delighted to open registration for the Network’s 7th Asia Regional Meeting, which – thanks to the support once again of Taiwan Foundation for Democracy – will take place at the National Olympics Memorial Centre close to Tokyo, Japan.

The meeting will run from 10 am on Saturday 14 July, until 1 pm on Monday 16 July (please note our meetings normally run Friday to Sunday but we are running Saturday to Monday this time because the Monday is a national holiday in Japan).

REGISTER HERE: The sooner you register, the cheaper your travel will be!

Accommodation for the nights of 13, 14 and 15 July will be provided by Tibet Network for all participants at the venue. Female participants will be allocated single rooms, and male participants will be in shared rooms. You are also very welcome to arrange your own accommodation but will need to be responsible for getting yourself to and from the venue (see below). Meals will also be provided by Tibet Network, from dinner on Friday 13 July to lunch on Monday 16 July inclusive. These will be taken at the venue’s cafeteria. Any additional nights of accommodation and meals are the responsibility of participants to arrange and finance.

Tibet Network has a number of travel bursaries available for Groups to help with international travel costs: Please contact Penghsuan at penghsuan@tibetnetwork.org for information about these. Priority for bursaries will be given to groups that made a membership contribution in 2017. Please note the following “rules” about bursaries:

  • Those receiving bursaries will be expected to attend the whole meeting.
  • Our funding rules dictate that travel bursaries in most cases can NOT be paid until after the conclusion of the meeting, and ONLY when ALL boarding passes (outward and return) have been received by Tibet Network.

The Venue/Transportation in Japan: The meeting and accommodation will be at the National Olympics Memorial Centre in Shinjuku, one of the main urban centres around Tokyo, see https://nyc.niye.go.jp/en/. It’s located about an hour and a half (by express train) from Narita International Airport or directly by subway from Tokyo centre.

For information on how to get there, here are a few suggestions: See https://nyc.niye.go.jp/en/access-train/. A roundtrip fare on the Narita Express train will cost approx 4000 Yen/US$37, see http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/pass/nex_round.html. Purchasing in advance is recommended.
