The Norwegian Tibet Committee is a party-political independent nationwide organization formed to work for Tibetan rights. The Tibet Committee was founded in the spring of 1989 and has about 1300 members.

Norway and Norwegians have had a special position among Tibetans after their religious and political leader, Dalai Lama, in 1989 received the Nobel Peace Prize. Several of the Tibetans who came to Norway in the 1960s still live here and they are active in the committee. In spring 1996, the Voice of Tibet broadcast radio station with shipments to Tibet, and Norway has once again strengthened its position in Tibetan consciousness.

The Norwegian Tibet Committee aims to:

  • To support the Tibetan right to freedom and self-determination
  • Inform about violations of human rights, economic exploitation, and discrimination against Tibetans
  • Make Tibet’s rich culture known in Norway
