Rangzen – The International Tibet Independence Movement was formed in 1995 by the late Thupten Jigme Norbu (the Dalai Lama’s eldest brother) and Dr. Larry Gerstein – (Director of the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies at Ball State University). Norbu fled Tibet in 1951 and came to the U.S. where he created the country’s first Tibetan Studies Program at Indiana University. Since 1995, Rangzen has led peace marches covering thousands of miles across North America to increase awareness about the crisis in Tibet.

Mission
We are dedicated to restoring Tibet’s independence (rangzen) from China through non-violent action. Since 1997 we have advocated for rangzen by leading peace marches for Tibet’s independence covering thousands of miles across North America.

Rangzen continues to be an all-volunteer run nonprofit organization.
