Today we mark the 35th anniversary of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s Nobel Peace Prize award.

In 1989 His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize “for advocating peaceful solutions based upon tolerance and mutual respect in order to preserve the historical and cultural heritage of his people.”

Thirty-five years later, His Holiness continues to spread teachings on peace, compassion, forgiveness, and non-violence, inspiring millions worldwide with his message of universal love and understanding.

To honour the anniversary of His Holiness’s award, we have released a short animation featuring his acceptance speech.

His Holiness is renowned for his teachings on peace, compassion, forgiveness, and non-violence. He has inspired millions worldwide with his message of universal love and understanding.
He has also been actively and positively engaged in interfaith dialogue, promoting understanding and cooperation among different religious traditions. He has addressed various global religious gatherings and conferences, emphasising the common ground shared by all faiths.

He has been a strong and vocal advocate for environmental protection and sustainable development for decades. He has emphasised the importance of preserving the natural environment for future generations.

Foremost, His Holiness has led the Tibetan people’s nonviolent struggle for freedom in Tibet for over 70 years, advocating for freedom and human rights for Tibetans. He has also been instrumental in preserving and promoting Tibetan Buddhist teachings and culture, both within the Tibetan diaspora and globally. He has established numerous monasteries and educational institutions to ensure the continuity of these traditions despite living in exile.

In July 2025, we will have even more to celebrate as His Holiness turns 90 years old!
