X has increasingly become a space that amplifies extremist views that do not align with those of International Tibet Network and that represent a threat to democracy and human dignity.

Furthermore, X is deprioritising any posts that link to content outside the platform, which means that our previous activities of sharing information, petitions, and actions are no longer seen as they once were.

International Tibet Network has therefore decided that, as of January 2025, we will no longer post content on Twitter / X from its official account.

We have considered the benefits of being on the platform and now believe – for us as an organisation – the negatives outweigh the positives.

Weighing the amount of interaction reached via X, we believe interactions with followers do not outweigh the negative aspects of the platform.

These include:

  • The increased toxic rhetoric that has seen X become an unsafe space for some groups and no longer aligns with Tibet Network’s values;
  • The platform’s algorithms favour controversy over accuracy and verified users can spread false information with more influence than ever.

We will maintain our handle and previous posts but will for now not be using the platform to promote or comment.

International Tibet Network is actively evaluating ways to make positive adjustments to our social sharing options and we will be prioritising BlueSky, Instagram and Facebook for our social media engagement at present.

Individual Network team members may continue to post on their channels, but this is done by individuals and is not connected directly to International Tibet Network.
