Tibet Network Statement: Our use of Zoom as a communication platform

Tibet Network has been using Zoom as its main communication platform for hosting meetings, campaign working group discussions and public briefings.

However, due to recent reports about the platform’s insecurity, lack of end-to-end encryption, and the information that some operations are directed through China, we have made the decision to cease with our use of Zoom for all internal communications – see Citizens Lab’s report A Quick Look at the Confidentiality of Zoom Meetings

Tibet Network will however continue to use the platform for public briefings, trainings and webinars for the time being. For internal communications, we are currently researching alternative platforms that will offer us security and ease of use. We will share news of our findings shortly.

We highly recommend reading Tibet Action Institute’s ‘Tech Tips for Navigating a Pandemic’, a guide on how to practice good security with particular reference to the current status of working from home.
